4/20 Friendly Newsletter

Back again with the newsletter except this time I’m late accidentally on purpose. We’ll have the usual roundup for you, along with some “Earth Day” friendly music selections!
First up, and perhaps most prominently, Lana Del Ray has released two singles leading up to what is an assumed album yet to be revealed. Yegor Mirnov has covered both in the past week or so. It looks to be that Lana has a new style and has introduced this era in varying efficiencies. Though, both songs rank well for Yegor. “ ‘Henry, Come On’ captures Lana’s signature warmth and vocal finesse, but its familiarity stops it from fully captivating me,” he says on the lead single. The track earns 7.4 out of 10, while “Bluebird” earns an 8.7 out of 10.
Go see what all the hype is about! You can find the reviews to both of these singles below:

I covered Djo, persona of Joe Keery of Stranger Things fame, with his latest album that came out a little more than a week ago. I thought his last effort was better, more so the style I prefer though The Crux wasn’t necessarily bad. It just didn’t feel too terribly unique as it emulated a lot of 70’s and 80’s legends without expanding on his own unique sound. I ended up unknowlingly echoing a lot of the sentiments of the Pitchfork review. Ultimately, while not a terrible effort, Djo’s third album earned 6.3 out of 10. For reference, I would give DECIDE somewhere around a mid-8. That full review is here behind Medium’s paywall or you can find it for free on our website with the link below!
Isi covered Black Country, New Road’s newest album, Forever Howlong. He previously covered their single, “Besties,” so I’m sure he was looking forward to this one. The new approach to production via James Ford helped create some new soundscapes to complement the band and their myriad of vocals. Isi gave this album a 7.9 out of 10 and described the band as “daring, innovative, and totally unafraid of change.” Find the full review below:

We’ve also covered Sheck Wes’s new single with Travis Scott (Yegor), Portrait Of My Heart by Spellling via Nick Eustis, Glory by Perfume Genius from Z-side's Music Reviews, Ghostholding by Venturing (also Nick), and Cautious Clay’s newest single, “Father Time (10am),” reviewed by Mariel Ferragamo. Make sure to follow Modern Music Analysis to keep up with all the latest album reviews!
But before we go, here’s a few songs that are 4/20 friendly, no matter how you celebrate. Make sure you touch some grass soon, it’s good for the soul.
